Job description
ABOUT AIRWALLEX
Airwallex is the AI-native financial operating system for a real-time, intelligent economy. More than 675,000 businesses, including McLaren Racing, Qantas, SHEIN, and TikTok, use us, directly or through our platform partners, to run their financial operations or build and monetize financial products of their own.
We started in Melbourne in 2015 to build the infrastructure global commerce runs on. We're the regulated backbone behind global payments: not by accident, but by design. A decade plus, 85+ licenses, and a financial infrastructure spanning North America, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia-Pacific.
We're co-headquartered in San Francisco and Singapore, with more than 2,700 people across 27 offices. We hire builders with founder-level energy, people who move fast with good judgment, dig in with real curiosity, and make calls from first principles rather than waiting to be told what to do. HOW YOU'LL MAKE IMPACT
Spend is building the financial operating layer for modern businesses, bringing together corporate cards, expenses, bills and procurement. You'll shape clear, approachable experiences for complex financial workflows and help define how the product comes together across surfaces.
- Define and drive the product design vision for Spend, from first sketch through shipped product, in partnership with Product and Engineering.
- Translate complex financial workflows across corporate cards, expenses, bills and procurement into clear, approachable experiences for modern businesses.
- Lead end-to-end design across desktop web, mobile web and native app experiences, partnering closely with engineers through critical moments from exploration to launch.
- Shape product strategy, roadmap and customer validation while helping establish the design culture and principles for the team.
- Build deep domain knowledge and connect work across the Spend product so experiences hold together as a coherent system.
- Partner with cross-functional teams, including the design systems team, to create scalable solutions rather than isolated screens.
You'll work from our San Francisco office three days a week.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
Essentials
- 7+ years of experience as a UX or product designer, with expertise across desktop web, mobile web and native app experiences.
- A strong portfolio demonstrating complex systems, multi-channel user journeys and intricate object relationships, not just polished screens.
- Proficiency in UX methods including generative research, information architecture, interaction design and user testing.
- The ability to think in systems and translate complex financial or operational workflows into intuitive product experiences.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to articulate design rationale clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- A proven track record of leading projects end to end in ambiguous environments.
- Experience partnering closely with Product and Engineering to shape requirements, scope work, test ideas and ship high-quality experiences.
Preferred
- Experience designing products for financial services, fintech, expense management, corporate cards, procurement or other complex business workflows.
- Experience working across multi-entity, multi-currency or audit-sensitive products.
- Experience contributing to product strategy, roadmap development and customer validation.
- Experience working with or contributing to a design system across multiple product surfaces.
YOU'LL THRIVE HERE IF
- You're comfortable owning the roadmap yourself.
- You're comfortable making decisions with incomplete information and moving quickly anyway.
- You're not precious about your ideas. You push hard for what you believe in, but you pivot fast when the data says otherwise.
- You say what you mean. You're direct, but you lead with
